Change – Part 2

But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind. This power makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Romans 7:23 NLT

Brain research shows that our brain has physical pathways. These pathways are created when we have a thought and get stronger as we repeat the same thought time and time again. It is created by electrical and chemical reactions that take place as the thought is triggered. Surely you have heard the term, “I am in a rut”, this is reflective of what literally happens on our brain or neuro network when we continue in the same  thought pattern over and over we create a rut on our brain, making this thought pathway a path of least resistance. In the case of negative patterns, we call them ruts or a bad habits!

Neuroscientist, Dr. Carolyn Leaf, explains, “… the currency of your body is electromagnetic energy and chemicals.  A thought and the emotion attached to it (remember thoughts and emotions can never be separated) take shape in your body and mind as electrochemical responses occurring in the depths of the brain…” Page 21 Who Switched of My Brain by Dr. Leaf.

So, what does this mean to you and how you can make positive change?!  Knowing that each thought is being recorded on your brain and directing your next thought, is the first step to making positive change.  What a man thinks, leads to the action he will take, and who he becomes.  See Proverbs 23:7a NASB

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.       Phil 4:7 ESV

The first step to making positive change: Recognize that each thought you have is being recorded on your brain and directing your next thought.

Beginning today, record all of the negative thoughts, habits, or hang-ups you have this week.  Come back this Friday for the next step to positive change!  Praying for a revolution of His Power in and over our lives to think, act, walk in His Ways! [Matthew 6:10]

This is an example of a negative thought pattern I am struggling with: I am tired so I must have coffee/soda/caffeine.
