Wise-up Wednesday: Memory

“If you wish to forget anything on the spot, make a note that this thing is to be remembered.”  – Edgar Allan Poe

“The advantage of a bad memory is that one enjoys several times the same good things for the first time.”  – Friedrich Nietzsche

“People have an annoying habit of remembering things they shouldn’t.”  – Christopher Paolini, Eragon

“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”  – Mark Twain

Just a little memory humor to prime you for another memory technique.  🙂

A simple memory builder is repetition.  Have I said that before?  Good, I hope so, because you cannot hear it enough according to all the good wise cracks about poor memory! 😉

Tony Buzan asserts that we need to do, say, hear something at least five times to commit it to long term memory.

Application for recalling names:

When you next meet someone new:  repeat his/her name out loud; ask the origin – or some relevant question in reference to the name; write the name down [immediately is best, lest you forget!]; when parting say, “goodbye _______”; and finally review before sleeping.

So in conclusion:  (1) review, (2) review, (3) review, (4) review, and (5) review again!
