Wise-up Wednesday: Food as Medicine

“Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates

Unlike in Hippocrates’ day,  in today’s world the food’s nutrients are severely reduced, and sometimes depleted, before harvest because the ground is overworked and undernourished itself.  In addition, more nutrients are lost during processing and the removal of the protective coatings that prevent spoiling.

The general rule given by today’s nutritionists and holistic doctors is to stick with whole and organic foods in as much as possible.  There are good supplements on the market today if you are depleted or unable to get what you need through natural sources. As always, you should consult your physician for your specific needs.
