Predictions, Probabilities and Problems

Red at night, sailors delight.  Red in the morning, sailors take warning.

The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.” Jesus then left them and went away. Matthew 16:1-4 NIV

The ancient Israelite leaders continued to ask for yet another sign from Jesus ‘in order to believe.’ It seems we are a society eager for more than what we have.  More predictions.  Eager for more answers.  Everywhere you look you will find the lure of the answers to all life’s questions.  Many street corners host Psychic Readers ready to share your future – for a fee.  Tarrot cards, “reality”  TV shows featuring psychic’s, commercials offering services to peek into your future, and Sci-Fi movie characters seeking answers from the past or searching the future.

Why do we seem so restless with today?  Why so eager to know what tomorrow holds?

What is missing from the moment?

What will it take to make you content with what you have now, right here in this time of life?

The Bible gives us knowledge of the past, present and future. It overflows with principles and promises that will guarantee contentment, peace and joy for the moment and for the millennium.

“Seek me and you will find me when you seek me with all of your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13.
